Political Cartoon
The image of the eye portrays what the British were doing towards the Bostonians, the British were watching and limiting the people of Boston food as well as the goods that were imported. Anyone who smuggled goods into Boston were sent to Vice Admiralty Courts where officials were not kind towards smugglers and very cruel. Many British troops were stationed in Boston and because they earned very little pay they stole and took goods, as well as acting rudely towards all Bostonians. As George III said, “We must Master them or totally leave them alone.” To master the people of Boston Parliament passed the Coercive Acts. This act closed Boston Harbor until the people of Boston paid for the damage that they had caused and prevented food from coming into the town, as well as banning town meetings, and forced the people to shelter soldiers.
This shows an image of King George the III's eye watching Boston making sure nothing happened out of the ordinary. His eye was always on Boston to make sure he had mastered it, he controlled it. He was willing to starve the people of Boston to make sure he had ultimate power such as a dictator would. The Bostonians reacted in the correct way by rebelling and fighting back against the British for if the British had ruled America none of the Colonists would have any rights or freedom and would still possibly be ruled by the British today.
